Throwback Thursday: My VERY first Job
So in the spirit of throwback Thursdays I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my first jobs with you! My very first job …wow I just have to stop for a second and say THAT was a super long time ago. I had just turned 17 and still didn’t have a car so I had to drive my moms FORREST GREEN boat to work. And I can still smell the grease coming from my clothes after I would come home from work. Fast Food you think? You are correct, in fact I still love going to this place even today and eating their yummy fabulous breakfast tacos… Whataburger.
While I certainly do not miss working there, I did learn a lot in my short two years of employment. I learned that first and foremost, don’t mess with people and their food or they will become very angry, some would even say HANGRY!! Secondly I learned that you have to respect your clients because they are the reason you are getting a paycheck (duh!). The customer was always right my boss would say, so I had to learn to put others before myself. A hard thing for a teenage girl to learn, ha!
JC Penneys Shoe Salesman. I must have had calves of steel after running up and down stairs everyday to fetch shoes for my clients. Although I didn’t have to deal with that nasty smell of greasy french fries after work, I definitely had some tired feet! A potential shoe buying person would hand me a shoe and I would be that person that had to go back in the storehouse, pray the shoe wasn’t up the stairs and then grab the right size. Some did this on several occasions with several different shoes. My big break was during the holidays when I made a whopping $600 in commission for hauling booty! This was my first real paycheck that I felt I had earned so well and I was soo proud of!
Although I don’t have any pictures of me as a shoes salesgirl, I have really great memories of working at JC Penneys. It was short lived but I learned that really putting your mind to something would produce PHENOMENAL results. I have carried on these principles in so many other areas of my work. I am grateful for my small beginnings because they have made me who I am today!
You guessed it, my favorite job is what I am doing right now. Photography! A lot of sub jobs go into this too like sales, marketing, blogging, and social media up-keeper but you know what this is hands down the best. job. ever. I LOVE IT. Why? Soo many reasons like I get to watch my kids grow up without having to drop them off to daycare, sit in traffic for two hours a day. And I make my own schedule…I am my own boss (well besides my kids LOL). Not only that but I feel so much better as a person when I get to use my creative juices and not just sit behind a desk all day doing mindless work.
Being a lifestyle photographer makes me feel I can make a difference in peoples lives and I get to do what I love to do all at the same time. I am one blessed woman and I could not have done it without all of the other positions that I have served in. I have learned so much in my 35 years of life and I apply it into my everyday work routine. Even though I didn’t love the things I was doing before, I gained so much from them and those positions made me who I am today. If only someone would have told that 17 year old greasy fry girl…”hey one day you will use these skills to do your dream job”. I would have listened and had a much better outlook on greasy french fries!! Let us throwback to you now…so what was your first jobs??
