DIY Tips for What to Do With Your Old & New Photos
I am actually going through my old photos today trying to organize and piece together my all of my old prints. When I was posting yesterday about my first date I could not find our very special first date picture (still haven’t found it…waaaa). So I decided IT WAS TIME for a change. This is the last time I am going to go through boxes and boxes of old prints.
I decided to go to Ross and get some albums that were only $9.99 a piece and got 4 all together. I decided to separate all my old prints into categories by timeline. For an example: Jason and I growing up, Jason and I dating, and after the wedding day to all of our travel and adventures together as a married couple.
Raise your hand if you have started a kids album and never finished it?? This is so me. Who has time for that? Well I have decided I need to make time. I barely had any of me growing up and I am determined to not let that happen with my kids (sorry mom). Now I know this is the digital age and who wants prints still in their home…this girl right here. There is just something about going through old photo books that I love. Touching each and every page makes me feel like I can remember something better about those moments where I can re-live them over and over again.
Even though I have a professional printing company called PRO DPI not all of my clients want to order through me. This is totally okay with me and that is why I give every client of mine a print release form with my signature on it. If you are looking for professional quality but don’t want to add any more to your package, my TOP recommendations for prints is Mpix! They are super professional looking prints and they have very reasonable prices and really awesome customer service. Their 4×6’s start at $29 cents for 1-10 prints. That is an AMAZING DEAL for the quality of print you are getting. They even have photo albums you can create starting at $39.99 on their website and they will send it to you after you pay shipping!
If your anything like me you take most of you pictures on your iphone because even though you have every intention of getting out your good camera, you just don’t! I usually take most of my daily photos with my phone camera so I can just snap away. My phone quickly runs out of storage due to how many photos I take in a day. So since they are in the cloud I know I can go to icloud.com and download them all to my computer so I can clear out my phone. My advice to you and to myself would be to print them out as soon as possible or get them into an album so they don’t get lost. This has happened to me before pre-iphone and it totally sucks to lose all of those memories. Print print print! You will never regret it I don’t care how high tech we become as a society. Prints are special and it is something that you can pass onto your children’s children!
For me personally and professionally, I use PASS which allows you to store up to 100 of your digital photos up to TEN YEARS for FREE!! That is hands down the best deal I have found out there. It is totally FREE! Whoo hoo! You can also get the PASS upgrade if you want to store more than 100 in a file but I have found that you really don’t need it. There is an app for it on your phone as well so you can share photos anytime with family and friends!
Another option if you don’t want to you use that one is Dropbox. The only bummer I have found about dropbox is that they have to compress your photos down to a certain size for storage purposes. This means the quality of your photos will not be as good as they once were and for me that just didn’t work out. I also ran out of storage quickly so I was having to pay $9.99 a month just so I could have enough storage with them. All in all they are still a really good option if you are wanting to store your photos and any other personal items for years and years to come.
These moments with my kids are already going by soo fast…sniff sniff. I cannot believe my smallest one is already a year and a half and my baby boy is now 4! I want them to have photos ready for them so that one day they can look back on and see how things once were when they were little. Time flies when your having fun so take a pic today and cherish these moments forever!
