Over the weekend we had soo much fun watching football and getting our first FALL mini sessions done!! And then it hit me…whoa!! Its SEPTEMBER already! The kids are headed back to school, work is back in full swing, and the holidays will be here in a blink! The retail stores already have decorations for sale. It is around this time of year that things start to sneak up on you. So I decided to share some things that April and I are doing this year to be more prepared.
Life, when treated like a business from a planning standpoint, can be much less stressful. So many times, it is easy to skip planning meetings because we do those at work and we are at home now! But what happens is reacting to life all the time. This in turn leads to (intense “heated” communication) with your spouse, children, or maybe even friends. What April and I do to combat this is meet up once a week and set our agendas. We do this on Sundays and it typically takes about 30 minutes maximum. We literally just walk through each day of the week to make sure we are on the same page. Turns out, April does not know how to read my mind haha who knew?? 😉 You would be surprised how many times our plans would have overlapped with the others and just by taking this simple step it would have saved us from that.
The next step to planning for the month is to budget for the activities and expenses that are headed your way. Christmas is a great one to start thinking about and saving for. Like many of us sometimes Christmas just takes you off guard and often times we feel penniless by January. This should not be the case. The main priority for Christmas should always be to observe what God did for us and to spend time with the ones we love. When money during the holidays becomes an issue it takes away from the good things and instead causes us so much more stress. The simplest form of saving for Christmas is to grab an envelope and put some money in there starting today. If you aren’t planning well for this then you will just end up breaking out the credit cards again ☹.
The most gratifying thing that can be done during the holidays is blessing others. Some can do it with money, others with time. Regardless of what you do both are not possible without preparation. Put yourself in a successful position these next few months and I can guarantee you will have one of your best holiday seasons yet.
