It was a lonely and mildly uneventful Christmas in Abu Dhabi the winter of 2017. What was supposed to be an adventure had become much less eventful. Geraldine, working for an airline was using this as one of her many opportunities “to see God’s masterpiece around the world with a hope to maybe meet that person I get to share those moments with forever”. However tonight did not seem to be one of those occasions. Every country has different holidays and as it turns out, Abu Dhabi does not celebrate Christmas.
To make matters a little worse, her sister who she had traveled there to see, had to work. Geraldine had heard of a dating app called Tinder from some of her colleagues and decided to pass some time by giving it a shot. The way the app works is, you look at a person’s profile and swipe left if not interested and swipe right if you are. Who knew that on that lonely Christmas 2017 with her finger pressed gently to the screen, she would embark on one of lives biggest gifts of all, love.
TJ had just moved to America to work for an International Law firm, having made very few friends in his tenure there. His profile popped up on Geraldine’s screen, she describes him best by saying, “he looked so tall, looking dapper in his suit with his adorable light brown curly hair. In one photo, he was giving his best man speech while smiling, I could see his perfect teeth and I thought, this guy’s so cute! I would always, always tell him he had the perfect toothpaste commercial smile!” They started talking and trying to find ways to see each other, unsuccessfully. She, traveling the world and he working at a law firm, I can only imagine how hard it must have been to try and get on the same schedule.
Finally, the date was set! New Year’s Eve in New York City! They both had decided to meet in the hotel lobby and while getting ready Geraldine realized she had forgotten her makeup. But she told TJ, she would still look like her photos, his response was he had grown out his beard, so he might not look like he did in his photos lol!
As she saw him walking towards her in the distance, grinning from ear to ear with his “toothpaste commercial smile” she thought, I love the fact that, “in an instance of both calmness and excitement, I could be who I am and in that moment, I didn’t care much of how I looked or what I said or how I acted. I could just be me.”
TJ & Geraldine, thank you for the opportunity to capture your moments of affection at Lake Cliff, the very place he proposed! Seeing the love in your eyes for each other in these pictures only excites us more to be able to capture new moments with you at Devine Grace Vineyard in just two weeks! You have a truly unique and fun story and we are blessed to be part of it!
