Capturing real and genuine smiles is essential for any great photo shoot, but it’s not always easy to get them. Over the years we’ve learned a few tricks to help our clients achieve that natural look in their photos.
Here are our top tips, broken down into easy-to-follow steps: 1. Incorporate Movement in every pose. Adding movement in every pose can help your clients relax and feel more natural in front of the camera. This can be as simple as having them walk towards the camera or twirl around.
2. Have fun with yourself. Encouraging your clients to make fun of themselves can help put them at ease and result in genuine, happy smiles. Try making a silly face or telling a joke to get them laughing.
3. Use prompts to get authentic smiles. Giving your clients prompts can help capture authentic smiles. Some examples include telling them to whisper something dirty in each other’s ears or to think about a funny memory. Try the bear hug, bird pose, and drunk walk. These fun and playful poses are a great way to capture genuine emotion and laughter. Have your clients hug each other tightly, pretend to be birds, or take a few steps in a pretend drunken walk.
4. Build confidence by seeing the back of the camera. Showing your clients the back of the camera so they can see themselves can help build their confidence and trust in your abilities. This can result in more natural poses and happy, genuine smiles.
