Brides it’s January and time to think ahead if you are getting married this summer!! We have photographed over 100 weddings now and there have been quite a few in those sizzling hot summer months!! I remember in 2021 we had 7 weddings in July!! That was rare but we learned a lot of lessons while photographing and today we want to share some of those with you!!
Picture this – exchanging vows surrounded by lush greenery or against the backdrop of breathtaking waterfront views. My love for capturing the essence of nature in every shot makes outdoor venues an ideal choice. Yet, I’ve also learned the importance of planning for unexpected twists in the weather. I recall a wedding where a sudden summer shower turned the ceremony into a magical dance in the rain. So, consider shaded areas or provide elegant umbrellas, just in case nature decides to join your celebration.
2. Nailing the Date:
Selecting the right date for your summer wedding is as crucial as finding the perfect angle for a photograph. I remember a couple who, inspired by my suggestion, chose a date with moderate temperatures, avoiding the peak heat hours. The result? A comfortable and joyful ceremony that truly reflected their love. And let’s not forget the charm of a sunset ceremony – it adds a touch of romance that lingers in the memories captured through my lens.
3. Dressing for the Occasion:
Having photographed weddings in all seasons, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of light and breezy attire. We remember one wedding in July where it got so hot with everyone sitting in the sun, some of the elderly had to go inside or hide in the shade. We felt so bad because of all the layers they were wearing too! Lightweight fabrics for the bridal gown and groom’s attire not only contribute to stunning visuals but also keep everyone comfortable. I always encourage couples to consider a dress code that aligns with the season, while also providing stylish accessories like hats or parasols for that extra touch of sophistication.
4. What about the summer menu:
In my experience, crafting a menu that mirrors the season elevates the entire wedding experience. Fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables add a burst of flavor, while chilled beverages and signature cocktails keep the atmosphere cool and lively. One wedding, in particular, stood out as they opted for a summer-themed cake that became a delicious centerpiece, capturing the essence of the season.
5. Setting the Scene with a Summer Vibe:
As a photographer, I’ve witnessed the magic that a thoughtfully chosen color palette and natural elements can bring to a wedding. Bright and pastel hues, interspersed with flowers, succulents, and citrus fruits, create an ambiance that feels like a dream. Whimsical details like fairy lights or lanterns add that touch of enchantment, transforming the evening into a visual spectacle.
6. Weather-Ready Plans:
Being prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way is a lesson I learned early on. A contingency plan, whether it’s unexpected rain or scorching heat, ensures that the show goes on seamlessly. I’ve captured moments under tents that became havens of laughter during unexpected rain showers and witnessed guests finding solace under cooling towels during a particularly warm ceremony.
7. Perfect Timing:
Timing is an art in both photography and wedding planning. Scheduling your ceremony and festivities during the cooler parts of the day not only ensures better photographs but also keeps everyone comfortable. Breaks and downtime become essential to avoid the peak of summer heat, and shaded areas provide a sanctuary for guests to relax and escape the sun’s embrace.
8. Invitations with a Personal Touch:
Communicating the unique atmosphere of your summer wedding begins with the invitations. Sharing your story and the outdoor venue’s charm helps guests prepare appropriately. I often suggest couples include a note about the dress code and any weather-related precautions, ensuring everyone arrives ready for a day filled with love and laughter.
In conclusion, a summer wedding, much like a perfectly captured photograph, is an opportunity to celebrate love bathed in the warm hues of the season. By infusing your celebration with these personalized touches and lessons learned from my own experiences, your wedding will not only be a beautiful affair but a genuine and enjoyable experience for both you and your guests. With careful planning and an authentic touch, your summer wedding will be a sizzling success, creating memories that last a lifetime.
