Time for some transparency. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions and change. My normal routine and life have been turned completely upside down. There has never been a time in my life where I have experienced so many changes in such a small window of time. I thought I might just be turning into a basket case but watching the news and scrolling through Facebook I see so many people reaching out for answers. Answers for anxiety, uncertainty, and for lack of social interaction (totally me at this point). People simply are looking for a solution to a problem that really no one has a solution for, but everyone is experiencing! It can leave a person feeling alone, dislocated from life. Even if they are in their own home! I heard it once said it is not that we are looking for shelter from the storm, but shelter in the storm.
This week I wanted to share some things that both April and I have found help keep us, positive, motivated, and actually enjoying this period in our lives. I know we do not have all the solutions and may not be going through specifically what you may be going through. But hope it helps.
Life has gone from 100 to 0! (Real quick) some of you will get the reference ;). But that’s just it, don’t let zero be your mentality! If anything, life is currently at 100. It may not have the same pace that you are familiar with and that’s ok! Embrace the new! Change is always hard, but do not let it distract you. Instead maybe focus on what matters most, family.
As I sat outside the other day watching my children play with the neighbor kids a warm breeze rushed across my face. I looked across the street at my neighbor and gave him a hearty smile and a nod. With the sound of the children’s joy in my ears and the warm sun on my face I thought, isn’t this nice! Try it! Get lost in a moment! I am finding the more and more I focus on the little things, the more joy I get from them. Did I still have to get up and attend to my children’s ouches’ from falling or bring out new toys to keep them interested? Yes. But I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. That was still my special moment.
There are so many good tools out there to help you stay positive throughout the day. I love a good morning workout mixed with some uplifting music. April listens to podcasts instead with her workout. A great recommendation is Rise Together with Dave and Rachel Hollis.
A long bath, a good book, or even a drive in the car. Whatever it is, make sure you are getting time for you. If it’s a drive, then while on your drive take time to remember. Remember all the friends you have, remember the things that you love and cherish, remember that funny thing a co-worker does. Then enjoy the here and now. What you are currently blessed with, one day you may find yourself missing parts of it. So do not miss out! Then maybe pull the car over, stop, and smell the Bluebonnets.
Here are some of our very own self portraits we did in the Bluebonnets last Saturday ;)!
