Fridays New Tradition: PJs & MOVIE NIGHT:
I thought today could be a FUN FRIDAY blog entry since it is one of my favorite days of the week. Because I love movies soo much and my family soo much I recently started a weekly tradition of movie nights with my four year old. We pump each other up all day about it on Fridays because it is just soo fun! I love that we get to do something together that we both enjoy…movies.
Ayden, my four year old boy also now LOVES Friday too because we get to be in our PJ’s early in the evening and not go anywhere for the rest of the night. We eat pizza, popcorn and maybe some ice cream (if we have room for it). POPCORN is new for him since I was always paranoid about choking so he is obsessed with it now. So for movie night, Ayden gets to pickout his one favorite movie (FROZEN!! Seriously every Friday..it never fails) and I pick the other which is always family friendly of course.
1. Princess Bride:
Seriously yal.. I have watched this one over and over again since I was probably 5 years old. My babysitter would put it on for us every single day because we (my sister and I) loved it so much. We still to this day will quote some of our favorite parts in the movie “as you wish” and “mawage, mawage is wha bwings ufs togeva today”. This movie is timeless and so much fun that it will always have a special place in my heart.
2. Titanic:
When this movie came out in the theatre when I was in high school I was in LOVE. I balled through the entire last hour of the movie. Every time I watch it I fall back in love and it brings me back to my high school days when every one (me included) was in love with Leonardo DiCaprio. He and Kate Winslet were so awesome together that we didn’t even notice it was a 3 hour movie, ha!
3. Safe Haven:
If you are a romantic drama movie lover like myself this one is for you. It is a bit of a thriller too (perfect mix IMO) but I absolutely loved the story line and especially the twist at the end. I cannot tell you how many times I have already watched this movie in such a short amount of time. It is just SOO GOOD!! Trust me.
4. The Notebook:
Because who doesn’t LOVE The Notebook? So much romance for the soul but add in the family drama and a crazy controlling mother? Thank you Nicholas Sparks for writing such a beautiful piece. We are forever grateful for this one that we can now watch a bazillion times!
5. UP:
Another tear jerker here and even though it is a kids movie I absolutely could watch this one time and time again. It has such a great story and it inspires me that no matter what chapter is ending in my life there can I always be a new one right after the page ends. When my hubby and I first watched it we didn’t even have kids yet. WE balled within the first like 10 minutes of it…such a great story here.
6. Remember the Titans
This is an oldie but goodie and is close to my heart because it came out the year I graduated high school! Even though I am not much of a football fan, movies about football and bringing people together are so inspiring to me. Remember the Titans was Denzel Washington’s best acting role of all time (in my opinion). It was also based on a true story which I absolutely adore about this movie. It was real and people like him are super hero’s and they do exist even in today’s crazy world.
7. Nacho Libre:
Okay I must say this one did not have me at first buutt after watching it over and over again…I am IN! Jack Black cracks me up so much that I just can’t get enough of his love song in the bathroom…”ENCARNACION”! HE is HILARIOUS in this movie so if you have not seen it you must give it a try. And not just one you have to watch it two or three times to really start appreciating how funny it really is.
8. Enough
Another one of my thriller movies that is totally NOT romantic, ha. It is all about fighting back instead of letting someone walk all over and threaten your life. C’mon it is just J LO guys…just kidding she does a great job and definitely got me hiding behind my couch pillow but I like that it isn’t too scary. I am NOT a horror movie person AT ALL so this is not anything like that. I can handle a few scary parts but that is it.
9. Adventures in Babysitting
Ok I have to confess a couple more of my 80’s movies since I was an 80’s baby. This one was one of my absolute favorites growing up and I just watched again with my older sister the other day when she came to visit. This movie was released in 1987 but it still gets me every time, I can still hear the creepy music in my head leading up to the scary parts.
10. Can’t Buy me Love
Last 80’s movie I promise but I have to include this one because I grew up loving it so much and I am pretty sure I saw it on Netflix recently. Patrick Dempsey is all I need to say and that should get your attention. My oh my..but wait …he was a NERD?? and Amanda Peterson was the super cool hot chick from high school (I wanted to be her when I got older, ha), so crazy how far he has come! Needless to say that there are some great life lessons here too that being everything for everyone just leaves you nothing for no one. Every one needs to watch an 80’s movie or two at least once and a while right?
HOPE EVERYONE HAS A FABULOUS FRIDAY!!
